This Week in 6th Grade
We have been using an online program called Rocket Math every day to help practice and master multiplication and division skills. From my experience, when kids truly master these facts, their overall math ability excels, and I am already seeing a huge improvement in their overall math understanding. 6th grade is showing more confidence in their abilities and I'm seeing better focus and behavior in class. The two are definitely related.
The next test is this Friday over multiplying and dividing fractions. We will begin our three-day review on Tuesday. The review Quizi will be assigned on Tuesday and will be due Friday morning at 8am. It's worth 50 points and students can attempt it as many times as they want.
What are we learning?: What does it mean to multiply and divide fractions?
-
Monday: 4-7 Dividing Mixed Numbers
-
Tuesday: Chapter 4 Review
-
Wednesday: Chapter 4 Review
-
Thursday: Chapter 4 Review
-
Friday: Chapter 4 Test
This Week in 7th Grade
We have finished looking and operations with rational numbers. Rational numbers are any numbers that can be written as a fraction. As one 7th grader put it, they are "fractionized" :D
The test is this Tuesday! The review Quizi was assigned last Thursday and is due this Tuesday morning at 8am.
7th Grade will take their MAP Growth test AFTER they return from camp. I'm not sure that having the excitement of camp on the brain is good for testing, LOL.
Next up POWERS AND EXPONENTS like they have never seen before :)
What are we learning?: How to add, subtract, multiply, and divide Rational Numbers. What are Rational Numbers? Any number that can be written as a fraction.
-
Monday: Chapter 3 Review
-
Tuesday: Chapter 3 Test
-
Wednesday: Intro to Chapter 4
-
Thursday: 4-1 Powers and Exponents
-
Friday: 4-2 Negative Exponents

This Week in 8th Grade
8th graders have done a fantastic job with solving various types of equations. I told them at the beginning of the year that by the time we reach October they will feel pretty comfortable with this skills and I see it now. They have done a great job!!! The test is this Thursday.
What are we learning?: How to solve algebraic equations. How can math symbols be useful?

8th graders trying to use the force to make it snow in September.

Me, calling for my lost SmartBoard Pen.
Have a great week! ~ Rich Wuebbels

So, you talked throughout the lesson and now your math doesn't math.
Other Reminders:
Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ
IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).
