Hello 6th - 8th grade families!
We have a lot to do during these last two weeks. 6th and 7th grades will have their last tests of second quarter this week and 8th grade will have their semester 1 final this week. Please check the class notes section below for all the details.
Thank you student council members for working so hard on this year's candy-gram sales. We sold over 2500 candy canes. Apparently kids like candy. We will be delivering those next week. This Week in 6th Grade
We are studied Integers, negative numbers and the coordinate plane this chapter. We will be doing a few special graphing projects as well. We are done with this chapter and will be testing on Thursday. After that we will end the year with a very cool graphing project.
What are we learning?: What are integers? They are whole numbers, their opposites, and zero. How are negative numbers possible and what do they mean?

This Week in 7th Grade
We are beginning to look at financial math...interest, sales tax, markup and discount, gratuity etc. The concepts of proportional relationships from last quarter are still a driving factor. I'll also be teaching the 7th kids how to create and use a spreadsheet. This is very short chapter and we are already ready to test on Friday. Next week we will wrap up this quarter with watching "It's a Wonderful Life". In the movie, the main character George Bailey runs a building and loan company. The concepts in this movie tie in nicely with the themes of this chapter.
What are we learning?: How do businesses and smart consumers use math?
-
Monday: 5-6 Simple Interest
-
Tuesday: Chapter 5 Review
-
Wednesday: Compound Interest and Spreadsheets
-
Thursday: Chapter 5 Review

This Week in 8th Grade
We are learning about simple and compound inequalities. This will take us up to the semester 1 final exam. We will begin our semester review this week. The practice assignments will consist of 3 Quizizz (one giant one but broken into 3 smaller assignments so the kids can focus on whatever specific area they feel they need instead of taking the whole thing over), and a work packet that comes with online instruction videos they will have access to. All review assignment will be due the day of the exam.
What are we learning?: How to solve linear inequalities. How are they similar to equations.

Have a great week! ~ Rich Wuebbels
So, you talked throughout the lesson and now your math doesn't math.
Other Reminders:
Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ
IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).
