Special 8th Grade Edition

Hello 8th Grade Families,

Final Exams are upon us. I've personally always liked them :)

There will be many practice problems assigned this week, along with study videos, opportunities to work in class and ask questions, and a few reminder lessons and even time where we will go over all the vocab words that will be on the test.

I could give one giant Quizi but...if students get a decent grade like a B+, what the motivation to go back and do all 120 problems again? So I have broken it up into 3 smaller Quizizz. Each worth 40 points. I think this makes the review problems much more manageable. I will assign one each day starting on Tuesday. ALL QUIZIZZ will be due on the day of the final at 8am. This is a long time to work but students definitely need to pace themselves.

On Monday, we will start with a small review packet (packet is a strong word for this thing). These problems cover the main concepts from the first semester. They also come with a video where a teacher explains how to solve them. Her teaching style is similar to mine. I will be posting the links in Google Classroom. The videos can be viewed through YouTube or Instagram (at home). Many past students have told me this was the most helpful resource.

All done, the review is worth 144 points and the final will be worth 80 points (about 10% of the second quarter grade).

So here is the schedule:

Monday - assign the work packet and post videos. Due Friday (24 points).

Tuesday - assign Quizi 1 (40 points)

Wednesday - assign Quizi 2 (40 points)

Thursday - Go over vocabulary and assign Quizi 3 (40 points)

Friday - Work day in class and begin writing the notecard (1 can be used on the test).

Monday (Dec 15) - Finish up writing notecard and a practice review game.

Tuesday (Dec 16) - Math Final at 8:30 to 10:00. It's timed at an hour and a half. All Quizi review assignments are due at 8am!!!

Wednesday (Dec 17) - Prepare for other finals

Thursday (Dec 18) - Science and ELA Finals, no math class

Friday (Dec 19) - blow off some steam!

So, you talked during the whole lesson and now your math doesn't math.

Other Reminders:

Students must show all work in their homework journal to earn any credit.

Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ

IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).

Regular chapel can be viewed live on our Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3-agaQWl4BGu9bEAh1TbgQ, or on our Facebook page.

Each student's passwords are found in the student planner. Here you can find IXL, email, and DeltaMath
