Hello 6th - 8th grade families!

With all of the unpredictable weather this quarter students have been doing a great job of keeping up with their studies. If we have another snow day this week students will need to check Google classroom. They all did fantastic last week. Any snow day assignments will be a review that all students will be able to to do without instruction. Of course notes and instructional videos are always available on this site.

6th Grade will have their next test on 3D shapes this Wednesday. Details below.

K-8 Grandparents Day Registration: Grandparents Day at ILSW is March 14th! This is a K-8 event only and preschool is not in session on this day.
Please register by Clicking This Link no later than March 2nd.

This Week in 6th Grade

We have been studying volume and surface area of 3D shapes! We have spent a lot of time reviewing this tricky topic  will test THIS week on Wednesday 2/19. We just need to practice practice practice before then:). Students should know how to find the area of each side of a prism or pyramid. Next up will be our statistics unit.

What are we learning?: How do you find volume? What is the difference between area and surface area, and how they useful in the real world?

  • Monday: No School

  • Tuesday: Chapter 10 Review/Practice

  • Wednesday: Chapter 10 Test

  • Thursday: Intro to Statistics

  • Friday: 11-1 Mean

6th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

This Week in 7th Grade

Some students need to finish the test on multi-step algebraic equations. Next up we will be using what we learned and study linear functions. Functions work like a math machine...you put a number in and the function machine outputs a number. This is where math starts meeting the real world. A preview...8th grade spends the entire year studying functions.

What are we learning?: How do we we solve for missing numbers?

  • Monday: No School

  • Tuesday: Intro to linear functions

  • Wednesday: 9-1 Functions

  • Thursday: 9-2 Representing Linear Functions

  • Friday: 9-3 Constant Rate of Change and Slope

7th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

This Week in 8th Grade

We are currently studying exponential functions. Exponents play by their own set of rules. We related this  to real world business and biology problems. We have one one more lesson and will be reviewing the rest of the week. We will have our next test on Tuesday, February 25.

What are we learning?: What is exponential growth and decay?

  • Monday: No School

  • Tuesday: 7-10 Recursive Formulas

  • Wednesday: Chapter 10 Review

  • Thursday: Chapter 10 Review

  • Friday: Chapter 10 Review

8th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

So, you talked throughout the lesson and now your math doesn't math.

Other Reminders:

Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ

IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).

Regular chapel can be viewed live on our Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3-agaQWl4BGu9bEAh1TbgQ, or on our Facebook page.

Each student's passwords are found in the student planner. Here you can find IXL, rocket math, email, and math textbook codes.
