📐✨ Area Season Has Arrived in 7th Grade! ✨📐
Grab your formulas and sharpen those pencils — 7th grade is stepping into the world of serious geometry! We’re exploring the area of triangles, circles, cylinders, and even cones. From slicing shapes into simpler pieces to wrapping our minds around curved surfaces, we’re discovering how math helps us measure the world around us.
Triangles? We’ve got the base and height handled.
Circles? We’re spinning through π like pros.
Cylinders and cones? Let’s just say we’re taking area to a whole new dimension!
It’s hands-on, it’s visual, and it’s full of lightbulb moments where everything suddenly clicks into place. By the end of this unit, our 7th graders won’t just see shapes — they’ll understand them. Geometry greatness is in full swing! 🔺⭕📏
🎓✨ The Final 8th Grade Countdown Begins!✨🎓
8th grade has officially entered the home stretch — and we are not slowing down now! As we launch into our final countdown of the year, we’re diving into some of the most powerful math concepts of the year. Get ready for right triangles to take center stage as we unlock trig ratios, revisit and master the legendary Pythagorean Theorem, and tackle the game-changing quadratic equation!
This is the math that builds bridges, launches rockets, designs video games, and solves real-world mysteries. We’ll be finding missing sides, calculating unknown angles, and solving equations that curve like a rollercoaster. It’s challenging. It’s exciting. And it’s the perfect way to finish strong.
8th grade — this is your moment. Let’s make this final stretch our best one yet! 🚀📐

This Week in 7th Grade
What are we learning?:
Surface Area and Volume of 3D Shapes
Why it matters:
At first glance, area might just look like another set of formulas—but it’s actually one of the most powerful tools in math. Learning area helps 7th graders understand how much space things take up in the real world, from designing a garden or painting a wall to planning a new building or even figuring out how much pizza is really on the table. 🍕📏
As students explore triangles, circles, and 3D shapes like cylinders and cones, they’re building skills that connect math to everyday life. It’s not just about numbers on a page—it’s about measuring, designing, creating, and solving real problems with confidence.
Understanding area also strengthens logical thinking and lays the foundation for more advanced math like geometry, algebra, and even engineering and architecture. Every formula learned is another tool in a growing problem-solving toolbox. 🧰✨
So when 7th graders learn area, they’re not just finding space inside shapes—they’re learning how to better understand and shape the world around them.
-
Monday: Circles and Circumference
-
Tuesday: Area of Circles
-
Wednesday: Volume of Cylinders
-
Thursday: Volume of Pyramids
-
Friday: Volume of Cones

This Week in 8th Grade
What's up with quadratics? They bend. They curve. They create parabolas. And sometimes… they give us two solutions instead of one.
Over the next few weeks, you’re going to learn four different ways to solve these equations: by graphing, factoring, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula. Each method is like a different tool in your math toolbox — and by the end of this unit, you’ll know exactly when and why to use each one.
This is where algebra levels up. This is where patterns connect. This is where you start thinking like a true problem-solver.
Let’s find those roots and see just how high we can make this parabola rise. 📈🔥
What are we learning?:
-
How can one quadratic equation have multiple solution methods, and why do they all lead to the same roots?
-
What do the solutions of a quadratic equation actually represent in real-world situations?
-
How does the graph of a parabola reveal the solutions of a quadratic equation?
-
Monday: 9-6 The Quadratic Formula
-
Tuesday: 9-6 Solve Using the Quadratic Formula
-
Wednesday: Graphing Parabolas (Review)
-
Thursday: Pythagorean Theorem
-
Friday: Trigonometric Ratios

7th graders trying to use a jedi mind trick to make us all think it's May 21.

Me, calling for my lost SmartBoard Pen.
Have a great week! ~ Rich Wuebbels

So, you talked during the whole lesson and now your math doesn't math.
Other Reminders:
Students must show all work in their homework journal to earn any credit.
Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ
IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).
Regular chapel can be viewed live on our Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3-agaQWl4BGu9bEAh1TbgQ, or on our Facebook page.
Each student's passwords are found in the student planner. Here you can find IXL, email, and DeltaMath
