Hello 6th - 8th grade families!
Thanks to those who came to Back-to-School Night. I always have fun telling stories about your children, LOL. No big deal if you couldn't make it, here's what you missed: I went over the curriculum for 6th math, 7th grade pre-algebra, and 8th grade algebra 1, and some of the options for high school math. I also spoke about the homework load and am asking that parents remind their children to make sure they are using their class time wisely. Most of us give some time in our classes to begin the work so if you notice they have barely started, it might be an indicator that they are not taking advantage of that time.
Friday was mid-quarter. Mid-quarter grades will be available this week in FastDirect. If any students are struggling, and I haven't reached out already, I will be, or feel free to reach out to me. It's a great time to reflect on the first 4 weeks and figure out how we can get (and stay) on track.
A reminder for this year, I am more than happy to let kids correct their online homework grades, or if they complete them after the due date, but they MUST MUST MUST email me with the assignment name and that they are complete. Otherwise I won't know to update the grade in the grade book. Any assignment makeup's or redo's must be done BEFORE the next test. I will only accept late assignments after the test on the very rare occurrence that we made an agreed upon arrangement.
Join the iNews: Eagle Weekly email list (will be emailed directly each week)
Other Reminders:
Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all in their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often (especially email). Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ
Regular chapel can be viewed live on our Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3-agaQWl4BGu9bEAh1TbgQ, or on our Facebook page.
Each student's passwords are found in the student planner. Here you can find IXL, email, and math textbook codes.
All class notes can be found on this website. I added links down below in the class notes.
Class notes
This Week in 6th Grade
We have began the next chapter, a review of multiplying and dividing fractions. Looking at the last test, many are struggling with basic multiplication facts. We will be practicing for a few minutes every day with an online program called Rocket Math to help practice and master those skills. From my experience, when kids truly master these facts, their overall math ability excels!
What are we learning?: What does it mean to multiply and divide fractions?
-
Monday: Prime Numbers
-
Tuesday: Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers
-
Wednesday: 4-4 Multiply Mixed Numbers
-
Thursday: Multiply Fraction Practice
-
Friday: 4-6: Divide Whole Numbers by Fractions
This Week in 7th Grade
We are continuing looking and operations with rational numbers. Rational numbers are any numbers that can be written as a fraction. As one 7th grader put it, they are "fractionized" :D
This is a pretty short chapter and will will be starting our review this Thursday. We're looking at our next test on Tuesday, September 24.
What are we learning?: How to add, subtract, multiply, and divide Rational Numbers. What are Rational Numbers? Any number that can be written as a fraction.
-
Monday: 3-4 Dividing Rational Numbers
-
Tuesday: 3-5 Adding and Subtracting Like Fractions
-
Wednesday: 3-6 Adding and Subtracting Unlike Fractions
-
Thursday: Chapter 3 Review
-
Friday: Chapter 3 Practice

This Week in 8th Grade
8th graders are doing a fantastic job with solving various types of equations. This week we will be looking at equations with variables on both sides of the equals sign, absolute value equations, and literal equations.
What are we learning?: How to solve algebraic equations. How can math symbols be useful?
-
Monday: 2-4 Solving Equations with the Variable on Each Side
-
Tuesday: 2-5 Solving Equations Involving Absolute Value
-
Wednesday: 2-6 Ratios and Proportions
-
Thursday: 2-7 Literal Equations and Dimensional Analysis
-
Friday: Weekly Review lessons 4 – 7

8th graders trying to use the force to make it snow in September.

Have a great week! ~ Rich Wuebbels

So, you talked throughout the lesson and now your math doesn't math.
Other Reminders:
Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ
IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).
